Things Happy people do: They derive their security from themselves and don’t play the comparison game

Happy people have high self-esteem because they know who they are. They aren’t defined by external things and aren’t diminished when these things are taken away. Their inherent value as a human and their security lies within and therefore there is no need to play the comparison game or be in competition with anyone else.

When you compare yourself to others you are bound to lose; when you start, in the short spurt and over the long run.

Comparison is a trap, it is toxic and detrimental to your well being on all fronts. Whatever you do, sooner or later, there will always be somebody who comes along who can do it better. The game of one-upmanship just never ends and pulls us down into spirals of unhealthy behaviours, eventually draining our vital life energies.

Happy people compete with themselves alone, the aim is to become better versions of who they have been so far, to grow and evolve and help others do the same. They seek to beat their own personal records, to show up as better persons with each passing day. Yes, they will have the downs as well as the ups in the race of their life, which they run the race in their own tracks, eyes firmly fixed on their destination, taking stock every now and then to remain in their part of the field rather than be distracted by what others are doing.
