Things Happy people do: Cultivate and maintain an Optimistic Outlook

Happy people give importance to cultivating an unrelenting, indomitable, optimistic view of life. They have decided that they will choose, time and again, to wilfully see the best in any situation. Where the best is not easily visible, they will dig around and strive to find it. This triggers a wonderful, almost magical circle of situations, events and people all moving in alignment to this world view. The attitude becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

A Master once told me, ‘You are fortunate.’ Before he could complete the sentence, I was vigourously nodding my head in agreement and saying, ‘Yes, I know, I’m aware. I am indeed very fortunate and blessed. I have all that I need and more, so much more.’ He paused and smiled. ‘Girl, this belief and attitude is what makes your fortune, most people do not acknowledge the good that they have in their lives. This faith in your fortune attracts more good fortune and blessings to you which further strengthens your belief.’

What you think about first thing in the morning will pretty much decide how the day will go.

The ancients knew this, hence the stress on prayerful mornings with good thoughts and an acknowledgement of one’s life and blessings. Happy people know that the first thoughts of the day set the tone for the rest of the day and start with gratitude for having woken up, first and foremost. They always find a way to see the silver lining in any cloud, they seek to find the best of any situation. The challenges they face are looked upon as opportunities to see things differently or learn.

Think about a challenging situation that you have faced or are facing currently. Resolve to find at least 5 good things about it. What have you learned/are learning/can learn from it? How can you find the silver lining and turn it to your advantage?

As the scriptures say, ‘In the end it is all for good’.

It is in your hands to find that good right away instead of waiting in misery for the end!
