LAYERS

Hour upon precious hour

spent distracted

in the daily humdrum

of what is called life,

but, is it so?

or is it

a mere existence

marking time

that passes by?

Hour upon precious hour

invested in awareness,

the purposeful pursuit

of beauty and joy.

An immense freedom,

priceless,

enjoying the time

that passes by,

living fully

through thick and thin.

Life.

I have learned to shed

layer upon layer

of conditioned thoughts

and patterns

now obsolete

keeping me chained

to a mere existence

repeating the motions

of generations gone by.

Ideas and times,

ways of living

no longer

relevant today.

Pain and anguish,

a deep, profound

soul-wrenching heartbreak,

the dark abyss of despair,

shaking my very foundations,

and then thankfully

a welcome refreshing

dulling of the senses

before the Void.

Where am I?

Oh, where am I?

Space and nothingness,

a deep, profound

dark and velvety

abyss of hope,

faith and succour.

Awareness.

And Time,

always time,

inexorable,

that passes me by.

Does it even exist,

I ask?

Awareness.

Am I awake

or fast asleep?

Awareness.

Now, I pull on

layer upon layer

of intentional thoughts

and create bright new patterns

to serve me in life

propelling me forward

into my chosen destination

of Bliss.

Space and nothingness,

and awareness,

as I dissolve…
