Autumn

Autumn arrives,

stepping softly,

over the leaves

the trees have shed,

the beautiful foliage

exhibiting myriads of autumnal shades

in preparation for the

hoary winter carpets

that will be laid

upon the half bare landscapes.

Dark is the night as the days blend faster

into twilight’s misty cauldron,

ensnaring the Sun behind covers

of vapourous clouds leaving everything bleak

and the swirling misty breaths

of the creatures that roam yet these lands.

Dark is the night, moonless and still,

and then,

I hear the howling winds

whistling around menacingly,

while I sit with my fireplace ablaze

with dreams of warmth,

snuggled in woollen covers,

a good book for company,

crackling chestnuts and dark chocolate!
